Paul Lab Alumni
See where are previous lab members are today and what projects they contributed to the Paul Lab
2019-2024
Melika Madani, B.S.
Melika was an integral member of the Paul lab and served as lab manager while also pursing her own research project on stress and sleep behavior in mice. As lab manager, Melika was responsible for managing experient scheudles, lab budget, lab safety, and training new lab members. Melika is now pursuing her PhD at UCLA.
2021-2023
Noah Liberty, B.S.
As an undergraduate research assistant, Noah dedicated his time to mastering Western Blotting and focused on analyzing expression of key circadian regulators in BMAL-1 over expressed mice. Noah is now pursuing his Masters Degree in Integrative Biology and Physiology at UCLA.
2021-2023
Mary Dover, B.S.
Mary was an undergraduate in the Paul Lab studying macrophages in patients in Alzheimer's Disease. She then worked as a Staff Research Assosicate and studied the oscillations of circadian genes in myoblasts and macrophages. She was also responsible for performing EEG/EMG surgeries for the lab. Mary is now pursuing her M.D. at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
2019-2023
Giselle Melendez, B.S.
As an undergraduate in Paul Lab, Giselle maintained all mouse breeding colonies and was responsible for animal welfare. As a Laboratory Assistant, Giselle's primary research interest was studying sleep behavior in different sex phenotypes and routinely performed gonadectomies. Giselle is now in the Masters in Public Health Program at the University of Southern California.
2016-2023
India Nichols, Ph.D.
India was an integral member of the Paul Lab as she managed breeding colonies, surgical procedures, and administrative work. During her post-doctoral career in the lab, her primary focus was studying sex differences in sleep behavior on sleep deprived mice. India is now a tenured Assistant Professor at Spelman College.
2017-2022
Scott Vincent, Ph.D.
During his time in the lab, Scott spearheaded a study investigating the role of hydrogen-rich water in sleep and slow-wave oscillations. This project culminated in his dissertation, which was completed in 2022. Scott is now the Director of Operations at Glyphic Biotechnologies.
2019-2022
Alexis Tucker, M.S.
Alexis's graduate thesis focused on the effect of BMAL-1 over-expression and sleep deprivation on the expression of circadian genes including BDNF and PGC1a. Alexis graduated with her Master's in Integrative Biology and Physiology from UCLA in 2022.
2020-2022
Dante Dikeman, B.S.
As the resident tech at Paul Lab, Dante was responsible for performing EEG/EMG head-mount surgeries on mice for analysis of their sleep behavior. Dante is now a Master's Student at the University of Southern California.
2020-2022
Damion Trotter, M.S.
Throughout his graduate program at UCLA, Damion studied differences in sleep behavior in inbred BxD mice and wild types. Since receiving his Master's Degree in Integrative Biology and Physiology, he is now a Ph.D. Student at UCLA.
2019-2022
Kyle Golden, B.S.
As an undergraduate in Paul Lab, Kyle aided with the completion of several projects including Scott's investigation on hydrogen-rich water and sleep behavior. Kyle is now pursuing his M.D. at Tulane University.
2020-2022
Sam Wimmer, B.S.
As an undergraduate in Paul Lab, Sam aided with the completion of several projects including Scott's investigation on hydrogen-rich water and sleep behavior, and Alexis's completion of Western Blotting. Since graduating, Sam is now a Research Assistant at the LA Children's Hospital.
2019-2021
Cameron Jackson, B.S.
As an undergraduate in Paul Lab, Cameron assisted Scott with the HRW project and aided the lab in animal maintenance and welfare. Cameron is now pursing his Ph.D. at the California Insitute of Technology.
2017-2021
Emily Chiem, M.S.
As an undergraduate and masters student in Paul Lab, Emily spearheaded a study investigating the role of time-restricted-feeding on sleep behavior and circadian gene expression. Emily is now pursuing her Ph.D. at UCLA.
